Hard times require furious dancing. Each of us is proof. ―Alice Walker

Various thoughts this week…

It’s just over two years now I’ve been piloting Seattle Dance Info, with my first email broadcasting February 20, 2024. In it I admitted to feeling both excited and nervous to be offered the reins of this community institution, which Ron Bolin built and tended for decades. I’m honored and thankful Ron chose me to help carry on his mission. And in the meantime, the gratitude I feel for all of you subscribers — all who’ve continued on with me and those who’ve since joined — has only grown more profound. Thank you, and if you’ve feedback on either how it’s working for you or requests or improvements, feel free to email me.

Richard Powers, dance historian and teacher at Stanford University, posted there were 2,300 dancers at the 48th annual Stanford Viennese Ball this past Saturday night (600 more than last year). The photo above shows less than one quarter of the attendees. That so many young people are this attracted to dance gives me great hope for our world.

And I’ll leave you with this poem by Rumi:
Dance when you’re broken open
Dance when you’ve torn the bandage off
Dance in the middle of fighting
Dance in your blood
Dance when you’re perfectly free.

We’ve our usual complement of classes, dances and live music coming up that you can view online at the Dance Calendar.

See you on the dance floor —Sean Donovan
