I had an amazing triple-header last week, starting Thursday with running the Dancing til Dusk event featuring The Long Ovals at Lake Union Park. What a party! The setting was lovely and the band and crowd — an estimated 400-800 revelers throughout the night — were on fire. It takes a lot of dedicated workers to pull off an event like that, and it’s so gratifying when many happy souls take part.
Friday we attended a “family-style feast,” a centuries-old Georgian Republic tradition hosted by the Supra Dinner Society. The event includes a toastmaster who “leads the dinner party on a journey…to the most meaningful aspects of life.” Ours included 21 people, 18 of whom we didn’t know, seated around a large table. Basically eating, drinking and being merry, but in a way that had us connecting on profound levels, with much laughter and a few tears. As a bonus, a talented jazz duo performed songs at key intervals. Of course we leapt up and danced when they launched into “Fly Me To The Moon.”
Finally, Saturday I got to DJ for a private garden party at a stunning West Seattle location overlooking the Sound. Again, seeing so many folks laughing, connecting, and sharing positivity was uplifting and offers hope that those who choose to dwell in darkness, sowing separation and misery, will be overcome. I’m grateful for the joyful collaboration and loving community so readily available through dance, which helps keep me focused on the good we can all do.
See you on the dance floor. —Sean Donovan
